Nigeria's House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has been suspended from being installed as the Aare Baasofin of Yorubaland (the Supreme Lawmaker of Yorubaland).
Lanre Lasisi, the Speaker's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, died on Friday, May 27, 2022, therefore the celebration was postponed, according to Lasisi.
When Gbajabiamila celebrated her 60th birthday, Alaafin died 35 days before the lawmaker's chieftaincy conferment ceremony.
It has emerged that an invitation to the May 27, 2022, ceremony has been circulated on the internet and that Bola Tinubu, an All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, would be identified as the chairman of the event.
At the occasion, attendees will be entertained by a variety of musical talent, including Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, and Chief Commander, Ebenezer Obey and K1 De Ultimate.
There were no invitations distributed for the event, Lasisi said in a statement.
After this the Speaker, in turn, gratefully accepted the position from God. It wasn't until this year, when a date of May 27, 2022 was agreed upon with the palace, that the Chieftaincy ceremony could finally take place due to the Speaker's busy work schedule. However, as fate would have it, the revered monarch passed away on Friday night before invitations for the event could be distributed (May Allah grant him Aljanah Firdaus).
A "natural" outcome of the speaker's death, "the whole Yoruba race, Nigerians both at home and abroad, mourned the well beloved Monarch."
